Skyscraping - To the airport!
I’ll begin at the start. Pulled into Heathrow, London, straight through security with three & half hours before my flight so I and set up in Garfunkles restaurant. I fancied a beer, ordered and realised it was 6.30am and settled for a Coke. An Indian man sat beside me and began chatting about cricket, I found this a little odd until he asked to use my laptop to see the ‘test score’ or something. I should have seen motive right through his friendliness, the score wasn’t as he’d have liked it, he quickly moved on.
I hadn’t really prepared myself for my trip, after Xmas and working in my Dad’s works’ warehouse to save some extra pocket money, It wasn’t until boarding that I started to panic. Shit, I’m moving to NYC for 2 months.
I followed directions to my seat, where a middle-aged lady sat. In my new found nervousness I couldn’t find space for my bag, she got up and firmly put my baggage and me in place, I wasn’t too impressed. To my surprise she proceeded with light chat… It turns out she used to lecture at my university (LCF) and had her own label and did work for Calvin Klein too. One of my main reasons for coming to the Big Apple was to meet people and improve my prospects. Caroline turned out to be lovely and very helpful giving me career advice & NYC tips. Eight hours of on/off chat, she wrote down her email address and asked me to get in touch when I returned to London as she’d like to offer me some work – Result.
I also watched an interesting documentary film on the flight, ‘The 11th Hour’, narrated by Leonardo Dicaprio, with loads of brainy scientists in-between, highlighting the problems of global warming and the impact of our modern capitalist ways. And true to my cult-susceptible ways, decided it was time to join the Green Party.
